Esther Griswold Bliss was born on July 7, 1785 and christened on the same day as her sister Flavia, July 7, 1785 in Keene. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Powers Davis Griswold and her second husband Captain Stephen Griswold.

She married Jonathan Bliss, Jr. on December 15, 1805. Jonathan was the son of Jonathan Bliss and Sarah Preston. He was born on June 7, 1873 in Gilsum, Cheshire County, New Hampshire.

Esther and Jonathan's children included:
Harriet Bliss Ball (1810, maried Orlando Ball),
Stephen Bliss (1811, married Rebecca J. Carr),
Esther Bliss (1816),
Marah Bliss (1818), and
Charles Henry Bliss (1824, married Josephine M. Williamson).

Harriet and Stephen were born in Clinton County, New York and the younger children were born in Scioto County, Ohio, thus they relocated to Ohio about 1814. They were early pioneers in Ohio.

Esther died on June 7, 1826 in Porter Township, Scioto County, Ohio. She was buried in Wheelersburg Cemetery.

After Esther died, Jonathan married Anna Ellis on January 25, 1829.

Jonathan died on April 4, 1842 in Scioto County, Ohio.
